Refuge du Piton des Neiges

“On nous avait beaucoup critiqué ce gite/refuge de montagne mais nous n'avons pas été tant déçu. Comparé aux autres gites/refuge du volcan ou de mafate, la qualité est bien moindre pour un prix identique. Cependant comparé à d'autres gites/refuges de montagne (Ecrin ou sur le GR20) la qualité des structures ou rapport qualité prix du repas est pareil.”

“Nous avons fait halte au gîte pour monter au sommet du piton des neiges à l'aube. Nous étions en dortoir et n'avons pas eût froid. Le repas était copieux le cari de poisson était bon mais celui de poulet bof bof.. Nous avons fait de super rencontres c'était un très bon moment. A cette altitude on ne peut pas être trop exigeants nous avons pu nous brosser les dents et c'est ce qui compte. Nous avons pris la notre douche une fois sur notre logement suivant!”

“Normall, you do not expect too much from the mountain hut, do you. And it is exactly what Caverne Dufour is. Good place to stay if you want to climb up Piton des Neiges and I can recommend it with no hesitation. But the way you are supposed to book a dinner is like from middle ages. There is no option on the booking site to simply "add the dinner" which would be sooooo convenient and easy. Unfortunately, it does not work like this. When you receive your accommodation voucher, there is only the information that in case you want to book a dinner (which you want), you should contatct the mountain hut directly. But they do not provide any phone number - wtf? Ok you have some phone number on the top of the voucher so you try this one. But this number does not work - again - wtf? So you end up googling some working phone number to any office du tourisme in the Reunion island. When you finally make it through and somebody picks the phone up, they inform you they can not book the dinner for you, you must call to the mountain hut yourself. Luckily, the give you the correct phone number to the Mountain hut. So you are happy and start calling to the mountain hut to finally book your dinner. In most cases, nobody picks the phone up. So you try and try. Then, when you are really pissed you call to the office du tourism once again to tell them the number they had given you was not working, they tell you to call there around 7 am that it is the time they will probably answer the phone - wtf? Why didn't they tell you this in the first place? So in the end, after endless trying, you have your dinner booked. Pice of cake. Just to mention, this all happened in September 2017 !!! I could understand if it was in 90' last century.”
