Zarlor culture walk - in the footsteps of Elie (Fêt kaf special)Date: Thursday 20 dec 2018
Between buddies !
Old style Creole breakfast + guided culture walk + Creole picnic + bus transfer
Re-live the last great insurgency on the island of slaves, led by Elie, before the abolition of slavery was declared on 20 December 1848, 170 years ago!
Walk in the footsteps of these hundreds of slaves who fought back, re-live their revolt as you listen to the stories of our guide “Eclaireur de l’Ouest”.
You will become Élie, Gilles, Prudent and Fulgence in turn: armed with sticks, you descend with determination from Le Plate to the centre of Saint-Leu, using "zabitan" trails such as "Kat sou", passing by Bassin Misouk, and poor districts such as Le Cap and Dubuisson.
Many of you will be declared "Sobat koz" (a debate) during the descent.
To add the finishing touch to this day, the two meals, breakfast and lunch, will take you back in time to days gone by:
Breakfast: mixture of local vegetables (chouchou, cassava, sweet potato, taro leaves) + fresh fruit juice + cow's milk
Picnic: corn and corn rice + meat cooked outside + seasonal leafy greens + lamsin cake and fruit.
(The menu may be changed).
